Adoption Criteria

According to the adoption rules of the Government in Nepal, couples married for four years or even single women, widow, divorcee are eligible to adopt a child. Adoption Criteria can be distinguished in following manner.

 

Age:

  • Single mother of age 35 to 55 years old can adopt.
  • The age difference between the adopted child and the parent should be not less than 30 years.
  • Only younger child can adopt if families has their biological or adopted child but only in the case if it will not affect the adopted siblings.
  • The elder brother or sister of the adopted child can also be adopt by the same parents.

 

Sex:

  • Families having children cannot adopt same sex children. If a family has their own biological or adopted boy and girl they cannot adopt.
  • Only one child of same sex is allowed for adoption except in the cases of twins. If the willing adoptive parent has his/her own offspring, in that case, acceptance to adopt a child of another sex can be granted and in this case the adopted child should age less than the offspring.

 

Marriage:

  • Single women can adopt form Nepal but single man are not allowed.
  • Married couples must have completed 4 years of their marriage.

 

Expenditure for adoption

  • Nepal Government fee   - 3000 US$
  • Orphanage fee - 5000 US$
  • Legal fee – 2000 to 3000 US$

 

Beside this you need to pay translation cost, Travel Documents cost, medical cost, other assistance cost which varies.  Tentative cost at least 500 to 1000 US$. As well as there is cost of transportation, hotel, food, gift, tips this varies.
